NATIONAL MISSION FOR SUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURE (NMSA) – RAINFED AREA DEVELOPMENT (RAD)

During the 12th Plan, a new programme National Mission for Sustainable Agriculture was launched by the Government of India. Sustainable agriculture productivity depends upon quality and availability of Natural resources like soil and water. Agricultural growth can be sustained by promoting conservation and sustainable use of these scarce natural resources through appropriate location specific measures.

Thus, conservation of natural resources in conjunction with development of rain fed agriculture holds the key to meet burgeoning demands for food grain in the state. Towards this end, National Mission for Sustainable Agriculture (NMSA) has been formulated for enhancing agricultural productivity especially in rainfed areas.

The different components of this scheme are;

  1. Rainfed Area Development (RAD)
  2. Agricultural development activities
  3. Climate Change & Sustainable Agriculture – Monitoring, Modeling and Networking (CCSAMMN)

A proposal amounting to Rs. 7.94 crores has been sanctioned for the financial Year 2023-24 by the Government of India.
