NATIONAL BAMBOO MISSION

The Economic Affairs Committee of the Central Government approved the implementation of the National Bamboo Mission in the country under the National Mission on Sustainable Agriculture in 2018-19. The main objectives of this mission are to promote the development of the bamboo sector, increase bamboo production in potential areas using improved varieties, establish primary processing units, and promote the marketing of bamboo and bamboo-based handicrafts.

This mission will increase agricultural productivity and income, thereby enhancing livelihood opportunities for small and medium farmers and women, while also providing quality raw materials to industries. Additionally, the mission will contribute to strengthening the climate and delivering environmental benefits.
In the state, the Agriculture Department of Himachal Pradesh has been designated as the anchoring department to implement this mission, and the Director of Agriculture, Himachal Pradesh has been appointed as the State Mission Director.

Apart from the Agriculture Department, the Forest Department, Panchayati Raj Department, Rural Development Department, Industries Department, and Agricultural University are also involved. For the year 2025-26, a budget provision of ₹3.70 crore has been made under this scheme. So far, the Government of India has released ₹1.65 crore under this component.
