FOOD AND NUTRITION SECURITY (National Food Security Mission)

In the state, to increase the production and productivity of rice, maize, pulses, wheat, and nutritious grains (selected varieties), a program was launched under the name “Food and Nutritional Security” (earlier National Food Security Mission).

Under this program, support is being provided in Himachal Pradesh to increase the production of rice, wheat, pulses, maize, and nutritious grains. For 2024-25, a provision of ₹761.00 lakh was made. Out of this, ₹22.05 lakh was spent for rice, ₹185.36 lakh for wheat, ₹113.53 lakh for maize, ₹158.65 lakh for pulses, and ₹108.56 lakh for nutritious grains. For rice, the program covers 2 districts – Kangra and Mandi; for wheat, 9 districts are included (excluding Shimla, Kinnaur, and Lahaul-Spiti); for maize, 9 districts are included (excluding Shimla, Kinnaur, and Lahaul). Additionally, all districts are included for pulses and nutritious grains.

Under this program, assistance is provided for cluster demonstration areas, machinery, distribution of certified seeds, micronutrients, plant protection, etc. For the year 2025-26, a budget provision of ₹9.65 crore has been made under this scheme.
